[Body]
Alright, let’s gab about this “open source sharepoint” thing, whatever that means. Sounds fancy, but I reckon it’s just a way to share stuff on the computer, like them young folks do. Now, I ain’t no tech whiz, but I heard tell there’s ways to do this without paying them big city companies a fortune. That Microsoft fella, he charges an arm and a leg for his “SharePoint,” but we ain’t made of money, are we?
So, what’s a body to do? Well, I hear there’s these “open source” things. Means free, I guess. Like when your neighbor gives you some extra tomatoes from their garden. Only this is for computer stuff. Folks make these programs and just let you use ’em. Imagine that! Good thing there’s still some kind folks left in this world.
Now, I been pokin’ around, askin’ my grandkid to read me stuff off the internet, and I found a whole bunch of these “alternatives,” they call ’em. That just means other ways to do the same thing, far as I can tell. One’s called “Nextcloud.” Sounds like somethin’ outta a sci-fi movie, but it’s supposed to be good for sharin’ files and workin’ together on things. My grandkid says it works on all sorts of gadgets, even them phones everyone’s always starin’ at.
Then there’s this “eXo Platform.” Don’t ask me what that means, but it’s supposed to be good for teams. Like, if you got a bunch of folks workin’ on a project together, they can all share their stuff and talk to each other, all in one place. Sounds kinda handy, especially if you got folks scattered all over the place.
- There’s also “ClearPoint Strategy”, whatever that is.
- And “ClickUp”, sounds like something you’d do with a mouse.
- “Glasscubes”, “Huddle”, “Samepage” – these all sound like things kids do at school.
- Then you got “Liferay”, “Nuxeo”, “Confluence” – Lordy, these names gettin’ weirder and weirder.
- “Source by IC Thrive”, “Jostle” – Sounds like a bunch of hustle and bustle.
- And even “G Suite” and “Redbooth”. My head’s spinnin’ just thinkin’ about it.
But the point is, there’s lots of choices out there, and you don’t gotta empty your pockets to get the job done. These open source things, they’re made by folks who just wanna help out, it seems. And that’s a good thing in my book. You know, back in my day, we just shared stuff face to face, or maybe over the phone. But times change, I guess. Now everyone’s got their faces glued to them screens.
Anyways, if you’re lookin’ for a way to share your files and work with other folks without breakin’ the bank, these open source sharepoint alternatives might be just the ticket. Just gotta do a little diggin’ and find the one that suits you best. And if you get stuck, ask one of them young folks to help you out. They seem to know all about this computer stuff. Me? I’m still tryin’ to figure out how to turn the darn thing on half the time.
So, to sum it up, don’t go spendin’ your hard-earned cash on fancy software when there’s perfectly good free stuff out there. Just gotta be willin’ to try somethin’ new. And if it doesn’t work out, well, you ain’t lost nothin’ but a little bit of time. That’s what I always say. Better to try and fail than to never try at all. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I gotta go check on my chickens.
And remember, always back up your stuff, whatever that means. Them young folks keep tellin’ me it’s important. Something about losin’ all your pictures and whatnot. Can’t have that, can we? Alright, I’m done jawin’ now. You go on and do your thing. And don’t forget to eat your vegetables!
